At a Glance

  1. This page allows you to schedule/reschedule an inspection and view inspection details such as inspector’s comments, status etc.

  2. An inspection can be scheduled only for a construction/excavation permit where the work has been completed and permit is in "Issued" or "Expired" status.

  3. This inspection scheduling is for Work zone deposit refund only. Public Space Inspectors (PSI) performs other kind of inspections at appropriate times.

  4. You can schedule an inspection for a permit only if the permit was applied by you.

  5. During scheduling you may propose up to three alternative dates.

  6. Weekends and DC Government holidays are not available for inspection. Inspection should be scheduled at least three business days in advance.

Inspection Status

Your permit will have one of the following inspection statuses.

Inspection Status Description
Not Inspected The work place has not been inspected. Some Occupancy permit may not need any inspection.
Pre-inspection complete This is done during permit application review process.
First inspection scheduled
Monitoring project PSI inspector will monitor the project work once the permit is issued.
Project complete Once the work has been complete, inspector will visit the work location and update inspection status in TOPS.
Work Zone Inspection Passed This inspection is needed in order to receive Work Zone deposit refund. Applicant may schedule an Work Zone Inspection using TOPS inspection scheduling option.
2-Yr Restoration Inspection Passed 2-Year Restoration Inspection is only for utility trench cut restoration, relates to excavation permits.

Deposit Status

Following statuses are applicable for Work Zone Deposit, Street Light Deposit and Wet Utility Deposit.

Deposit Status Description
No information Legacy permit applications where TOPS does not have pertaining information.
Deposit on file Deposit has been paid for this permit.
No deposit No Deposit was required for this permit.
Available for Release Once the final inspection is passed, the inspector changes deposit status to Available for Release.
Deposit Released Once the deposit has been refunded by the treasury office, inspector changes the status to Deposit Released.
Deposit Waived Permit Office waived the deposit. There will be no refund associated with this kind of deposit status. However, inspection may still be required.
Exempted Certain utility companies may be exempted for whom the City is holding large amount of deposit for bigger on-going projects.
