1. The commercial vehicle loading zone permit grants the right to use curbside loading zone spaces (for up to two hours, during the specified hours of operation for each zone) and the tags grant rights to make trips in, out, or in and out of the District.

2. Single haul permit for one trip and one day permit for loading zone are also available. No manual review is required for loading zone one day permits.

3. Annual permits require review, resulting in a longer processing time. View a table of lead times for each permit here.

4. Permits/tags/decals can be mailed or picked-up; Applicants indicate their preference in their permit application.

5. Renewals are available for annual tag permits during certain renewal window.

Processing Time

Check this chart for processing times for various permits. Once a permit is approved, you can pay online using Visa/Master card or in person at the permit office at 1100 4th Street SW, Washington, DC. Payment can be made on the 2nd floor during office hours: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm and Thursday from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm.

Fees

Permit Fee

Following are the permit fees for different types of commercial vehicle permits.

Annual Tag

Dump Trucks, Cement Mixers, & Trash Trucks, etc.: $1,193 Mobile Crane and Tractor Trailer: $85

Loading Zone-Annual

$323 Decal fee per vehicle and $50 permit fee per application.

Single Haul

In-bound or out-bound trip only is $30; round trip is $50

Loading Zone- One Day Permit

Permit fee is $25

Technology Fee

There is a 10% technology fee in addition to the permit fee.

Renewal

The Annual Tags can be renewed 45 days before the expiration date.

If you are applying for a Loading Zone Annual Permit for the current year, this permit will cost $323.00 and expire on December 31st . This price is not pro-rated.

If you wish to wait and purchase a Loading Zone Annual Permit for next year, this permit will be effective from January 1st - December 31st. It will become available to purchase in November. However, if you need to use the commercial vehicle loading zones in the meantime, you have two options to choose from. They are:

1. Pay-by-Cell for your time at the loading zone – (not available in TOPS) (Cellphone required)

2. Loading Zone One Day Permit – (available in TOPS)

Loading Zone 2016 Annual Permit will be available beginning October 1st 2015

Application Status

A permit application starts with "Incomplete" Status, after submission it becomes "Pending Assignment" and then moves through several pre-defined statuses before it can get issued.
